Relic Ring

This is a class that I've taught many times in person. My students love it, not just because it's beautiful but it's also lots of fun to make. My inspiration for this piece came from a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts, in Houston. There was an exhibit of jewelry from the ancient city of Pompeii. It impressed me so much that these amazing relics had been unearthed from beneath layers of ash and destruction, and still survived. Using the inspiration from the Pompeii pieces, I set to work. I wanted my "relic" to have the look of something that might have been excavated from an archaeological dig. I had a great time accomplishing that...and now you will, too.

Special for this class: password protected stone sales on my website. These stones have been curated specifically for this class and are offered at a great price point, for Relic Ring students.

Skill level: beginner and up

What my students have said:

Jean

I shall take every class you give online and buy any stone you offer for sale. Your classes are state-of-the-art, and your jewelry art is indeed divine. I expect that one day I’ll have the joy of learning from you in person. Until then, know that your charisma comes right on through the WiFi.

Denise

I’ve taken a lot of classes and watched a lot on YouTube also. Things just didn’t come together for a while. When you find a teacher that makes it click for you like; Deryn did for me. It all comes together! I watched her over and over.....I feel like a metalsmith now and nothing intimidates me. I use her process for everything and I learned to love the blue tip of the flame!

Marianne

Deryn, this class has really transformed the way I think of my jewelry making skills. I took your Art Of Closure (several years ago?) and loved it...but never had the courage to use my torch to draw a bead on a headpin. Not any more - No. More. Fear! Thank you again for such a cosmic learning experience!

Originally from Oregon, with a long stop in Texas, I now live in the wild west of Wyoming where my husband was born and raised. Wyoming has always been home to me and we're lucky to have an amazing, old farmhouse built in 1900, that sits at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. We are host to deer, pheasant, wild turkeys, bald eagles, great horned owls, moose, osprey and even a bear in our yard. This is the setting for Owl Creek Studio, and the inspiration for much of my work.

Through years of practice in metalsmithing and jewelry making techniques I've developed a unique style of my own. I traveled the country, for years, to feed my love of teaching and discovered a true passion for sharing my knowledge of technique and design. I was one of the first instructors to offer online jewelry making classes and am proud to offer excellent and inspiring creative content, online and in person.
