What kind of tools do I need?

For the metalsmithing projects, you'll need basic metalsmithing tools: a butane torch, pliers, saw, bench pin, hammers, etc. For wire based projects, you'll need even fewer tools. Links, with photos, are supplied for all courses, along with video intros to tools and supplies. Within these links are options for tools in different price ranges.

What if I'm afraid of the torch?!

For all of my classes that require a torch, we use a small, student friendly butane torch. This is an intentional choice on my part as I find this torch set up to be extremely easy to use, and non-threatening for students. I'll guide you through the steps and show everything you need to know to be successful, including which torch works best, how to operate it, safety considerations, basic soldering and how to solder delicate elements.

But sterling is so expensive!

The price of sterling fluctuates on a daily basis. Most of the projects can be done with less expensive metals like copper or brass, or a mix of metals. If you don't have a lot of experience, practice on copper until you're comfortable. Once you overcome your hesitation to work in silver, you'll see that it's easy to work with and you'll be proud that you created something of value, with your own two hands!

Can I do this?

That fear is something I totally understand. Going forward with something new can be scary! Just remember that you're learning and I'll be there every step of the way. Overcoming doubt is part of the creation process. You can do it!

What about stones?

I'll be offering stone sales from my website. There will be special stone sales for students, as inventory allows. Notifications for stone sales and small batch jewelry releases are via my newsletter.
