Rings for Rookies

It might be a little hard to believe but all of the beautiful rings for this course were made using just a butane torch! The butane torch can be a tricky little beast, but it can also be an incredibly effective tool for creating exquisite, soldered jewelry. I'll teach you all of my tips and the nuances involved in soldering multiple layers, as well as delicate elements, with this accessible, student-friendly torch. Whether you're just getting started, or are a more seasoned jewelry maker, I can help you learn how to get the most from your butane torch while building gorgeous rings, from start to finish. I'll take you from stone selection, all the way to the very last (and most fun!) step of stone setting, with lots of other skills learned, in between.

Special for this class: password protected stone sales on my website. These stones have been curated specifically for this class and are offered at a great price point, for Rings for Rookies students.

What my students have said:

Nancy

A mazillion (I made up that word) things that I have struggled with that you have great tips on. And I am only thru lesson three!

Jan

Deryn, I wanted to thank you because everything about how I create has changed. My skills have improved 200%. I am no longer afraid to try something new. When I make a mistake, I've learned to use the mistake as part of the design. I'm having so much fun! I'v learned to be proficient with the saw that sat in a drawer for years, until now. I am so grateful to have found you. You are an excellent teacher. I started to say instructor, but you do much more than instruct. You taught me how to think differently about a project, design, color. I look forward to new classes!

Kristie

I binge watched almost all of the videos yesterday. I love your teaching style and my head is exploding with ideas and information. Thank you for such a great online class!

Originally from Oregon, with a long stop in Texas, I now live in the wild west of Wyoming where my husband was born and raised. Wyoming has always been home to me and we're lucky to have an amazing, old farmhouse built in 1900, that sits at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. We are host to deer, pheasant, wild turkeys, bald eagles, great horned owls, moose, osprey and even a bear in our yard. This is the setting for Owl Creek Studio, and the inspiration for much of my work.

Through years of practice in metalsmithing and jewelry making techniques I've developed a unique style of my own. I traveled the country, for years, to feed my love of teaching and discovered a true passion for sharing my knowledge of technique and design. I was one of the first instructors to offer online jewelry making classes and am proud to offer excellent and inspiring creative content, online and in person.
